Northern Nevada VOAD will be participating in the Urgent Solidarity Exercise on May 23, 2013. If you are planning on participating, please sign up on the SPARTAN Project site.
Background on Urgent Solidarity
Washoe County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security is hosting a Nevada Division of Emergency Management/Department of Homeland Security-funded series of recovery exercises. This is a continuation of the SPARTAN project (Schools Prepared And Ready Together Across Nevada) which was started in 2010. The exercise series focuses on Northern Nevada earthquake preparedness in schools.
The exercise series, known as “Urgent Solidarity” will begin with an objectives overview and HSEEP training for the exercise design team (November 28-30, 2012), continue with a table top exercise (January 9, 2013), move to a functional exercise (March 19, 2013), and culminate with a full-scale exercise to be conducted in an elementary school, a middle school, and a high school in Northwest Reno (May 23, 2013).
Washoe County School District is the lead agency for this exercise series (Exercise Director is Tracy Moore, WCSD Officer/Emergency Manager). The Washoe County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security will provide guidance and support. Our goal is to ensure that the SPARTAN plans are realistic and meet the needs of the community.
